I am passionate about early childhood education and creating a more peaceful world!

Certain values are very important to me. Values about how people treat each other, their belongings, and our world. Values about how we view and treat our own bodies and minds. Essentially, I want to teach young children to be considerate, kind, compassionate, peaceful, respectful, focused, busy, and happy explorers.

Children need to be guided how to express their emotions appropriately, how to listen to another person’s point of view, and how to work together with adults and each other. If children can develop these qualities, then they will naturally be capable of learning and reaching their developmental potentials, and they will achieve the educational standards used in today’s schools.

Family and community culture are also very important to me. I have lived in Europe and in several different parts of America, and have been exposed to many different cultures. I strive to respect each family’s unique needs and perspectives both in and out of school. I make an effort to bring their culture and traditions into the classroom in an authentic way.

I favor an emergent curriculum model in the classroom, to balance the children’s current interests with the various important lessons related to values that children need in order to grow up safely and confidently into the responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Peace & non-violence are my top priority. I am in the process of creating a nonviolence curriculum in partnership with Azim Khamisa, Founder of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation and President and CEO of the Children’s Safety Network. The 5 Building Blocks to a Peaceful World: A Peacemaking and Problem Solving Program for Young Children adapts TKF’s 6 Key Messages to meet the needs of our youngest learners. It is a peace generating and violence prevention program that is solution-oriented. The pilot program will begin Spring 2014. If you are interested in learning more about this program, becoming a location for our pilot program, helping with our research efforts, or supporting us in any way, please contact us here.

We will be discussing our collaboration during the Visionary Changemakers Teleseries on February 25, 5:00 Pacific. We’d be honored if you would join us!
